Welcome my new official club members and welcome to "Girl, Blogging Interrupted!" I'm your leader and fellow girl Sam. Starting with my favorite topic, myself, here are some important details about me! I am currently a sophomore in college studying English and hoping to minor in film. In my spare time, I like making "Sam's Club" jokes, consuming some form of Reality TV and analyzing it like a film bro which I fear I might be turning into. Also, I love to relax and take care of myself, and I am truly just so humble. "Girl, Blogging Interrupted," was born thanks to my "Writing for the Web" class where I have been tasked with creating a blog. As far as the meaning behind the pure genius that is my title, to be honest, I have never actually seen the film "Girl, Interrupted," but it is on my watch list! (I will never see it.) Anyways "Girl, Blogging Interrupted" is a way for me to unleash my inner girl blogger!

First things first, if you aren't chronically online, then you might not know the lore that is girl blogging. Not to be confused with girl bossing, girl blogging is the phenomenon where a young female (this is me) runs a blog that is super cute and visually appealing. Specifically, the girl blogger is one who has Lana Del Rey playing in the background of her coquette room and loves to romanticize. Or if you want to get philosophical and rather dark girl blogging is simply another aesthetic that is a metaphor for consumerism.

On that note, in this blog, we will be discussing all things girl in the girl world. However, this won't be a diary because I'm gatekeeping that (also my professor said that this shouldn't be a diary.)  Specifically, this blog will look at different aesthetics just like girl blogging and examine all the different sides of it. For example, is girl blogging just escapism with a bow on it or is it really fun and cool? Overall, my main goal with this blog is that I want to be Sam, not some romanticized aesthetic or a variation of a movie character. I want to be creative and expressive and showcase my experiences as being a girl because it can be challenging. In addition to being really funny another important thing about my life is that I'm going to be turning 20 this upcoming year, which is both scary and exciting. Yet, I have seen the good and bad sides of being a girl and I want to discuss the big and small issues that both I and girls alike face in this blog. It's hard being just a girl boss but it's a little less hard when you have a community of girl bosses and now girl bloggers. Stay tuned!!

XOXO,

Sam 💋🎀

  1. This sounds like a really fun blog site, but I wanted to ask if it's okay if guys are allowed to interact with this blog site? I have been taking classes studying women's issues and understanding their struggles and I was hoping if I can apply what I learned here. I've also been fascinate certain aspects of women culture like gossip and self maintenance and I couldn't really relate to a lot of guys I know in my life. If guys aren't allowed here that's also fine because it's okay for women to have their online safe spaces too; as a guy I totally understand how uncomfortable they can be and I'm around them more so I know what they are like.

  2. I'm very glad I did not mistake this for a girlbossing blog. This reminds me of a lot of the books I used to read as a kid, such as Just Judy and Rainbow Magic. Blogs like these always stir my curiosity, as I never really fit in with the girls my age (as was expected). Will there be talk of what's trending among girls? Or perhaps a simple "loving life today" moment? And what does girlypop mean? It definitely stirs questions about girlhood in my own youth, for sure.

    1. Do not fear I am only here to serve! But that's the best compliment! I loved the "Rainbow Magic" books as a child!! Anyways you are giving me some great ideas and asking great questions! Specifically, to define the word girlypop it basically means one who is very bubbly, fun, and cutesy. But it can also be used in many ways! For one, it can be used as a greeting like "Hey girlypop," or furthermore if you don't know someone's name you could use it to say, "Hey girlypop there's something on your shirt." Also, it can be used to describe something or someone that acts or does something deemed feminine. For example, Preminger from Barbie's "Princess and the Pauper," is a bit girlypop. But, overall, it's meant in a funny way, not in a mean or derogatory way; however, if someone uses girlypop in a mean way then they are not a girlypop! Anyways, try using it in a sentence today!

  3. I have never heard of this term before and I am on social media a lot lol. I can appreciate the design efforts around making a blog appealing to the eye. This would be a great thing to provide people that are getting ready to make blogs, so that the blog is not lacking visually appealing aspects.

    1. You are such a gemstone for that! I am not even in the graphic design field at all, but bless your heart! Oooh, I love that you are learning some new terms here and I appreciate the honesty because no one has a healthy screen time! 🙊
